Picture this: It’s a balmy 30 degrees out with a light wind and bluebird skies as far as the eye can see. Overnight, a few inches of snow fell and the morning skied great, but now the warm sun begins to turn the snow more spring like. Your friends are meeting at the Gondola and your afternoon is wide open. It’s time to ditch the backpacks, lose the midlayers, maybe even leave the goggles behind in favor of sunglasses because it’s time for some spring skiing action. As you put your edges in the snow with ease, each turn feels softer and gets easier. The only way this day gets better is with live music playing underneath the tram and a proper après! Now let’s not get ahead of ourselves, but these days are upcoming…
As locals daydreamed of spring skiing with a side of music, they also anxiously awaited word of who would be performing this year at the Rendezvous Spring Festival; many big names were tossed around, but finding the right fit for Jackson Hole was always the hope. As Rendezvous weekend slowly approaches, it’s safe to say this year’s contingent hits the nail on the head, as artists near and dear to the Jackson Hole audience return in a stacked lineup spanning 3 days. Toss in the fact that all the concerts are FREE and that you can see other music at local venues throughout the week, FREE concerts the weekend before, and events galore – now we’ve really got a party!
Planning on making the trip for Rendezvous? There is a lot more to Jackson Hole than just skiing or riding! Check out our Experiences page for more one-of-a-kind attractions and do Jackson Hole like a local!
Now, your guide to everyone’s favorite week of the winter: Rendezvous Spring Festival 2019.
The festivities for Rendezvous Festival kickoff Friday afternoon at 5pm on the Town Square, but there is lots going on the weekend before as well. Don’t miss out on College Rendezvous and Jackson Hole DemoFest as they take center March 8-10. Now back to Friday’s shindig.
There is no better venue or experience than seeing music live on the Town Square among the hallowed elk antlers, the famed Cowboy Bar, and a couple thousand of your closest friends. Friday night we welcome local favorite Grace Potter. A ‘daughter’ of Jackson Hole, Grace has performed shows throughout the Jackson Hole valley and Teton Valley with much success. There will be no shortage of energy radiating the Town Square on Friday night and those attending should plan to wear their dancing shoes. Both shows are free with options for ticketed concerts such as Moe at the Pink Garter following the festivities. But don’t ‘live it up so high you can’t live it down’, as Saturday looms and with a little luck a powder morning will greet concert goers in Teton Village!
Just two short years ago, before finding himself on the Billboard 200 charts for his new single and a new album that debuted at number 5 on the Alternative Albums chart, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats made their first stop in Jackson Hole. Coincidentally, this was also during Rendezvous Spring Festival as he blew the proverbial roof off the Town Square as he headlined Friday’s show. Fast forward two years and Rateliff returns with a few more feathers in his cap - a successful second album, countless plays across XM radio, and tour stops across the world will do that for you. He will be headlining the main stage in Teton Village on Saturday evening with popular bluegrass outfit Greensky Bluegrass getting the party started. Starting at 5:30pm, Greensky will bring their Colorado based bluegrass funk to the Tetons and undoubtedly deliver top notch banjo and mandolin pickin’ from the soul that is sure to make you move your feet. Even if bluegrass isn’t your thing, you’ll find yourself at home with covers and great renditions of songs from Pink Floyd, the Talking Heads and more.
Stick around for the main event and it’s no secret what Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats bring to the stage. The aforementioned successes of Rateliff and the Night Sweats are sure to be delivered in a fast paced, action packed atmosphere, or truly the stuff that great concerts are made of. There will be no wallflowers for this one folks.
Thinking about joining the fun? Remember that all concerts part of the Rendezvous Spring Festival are free, but there are VIP options available. For more information, click here.
As we get closer to Rendezvous weekend, stay tuned for information on our transportation plan. We’ll be getting you to and from Teton Village on Saturday evening as quickly and safely as possible.
Cap off a great weekend where it all began, Music Under the Tram with Chanman Roots Band. Local favorites, Chanman brings his nine piece reggae band to Teton Village very familiar with the surroundings. If you have skied Jackson Hole Mountain Resort on Saturday or over Christmas, you’ve heard him at the base of the Bridger Gondola for years. Along with playing originals, you’ll find originals from Bob Marley and Steel Pulse as part of the CRB’s repertoire. You know what to do! Eat, sleep, ski, après, repeat! Feel the positive vibrations under the Tram and close out another great Rendezvous Festival the way you know how, dancing the afternoon away.
